Conference Volleyball Tournaments Ready For Championship Saturday

Semi-final and consolation rounds were contested at both the Northern Lights Conference and Southcentral Conference volleyball tournaments on Friday with the Soldotna Stars dropping a pair of games at Colony High in the NLC tournament and Nikiski and Kenai battling at the Southcentral Conference tournament at Anchorage Christian School.

 

Northern Lights Conference Volleyball Tournament

The Soldotna Stars, following a victory on Thursday over Palmer, fell twice on Friday and closed-out SoHi’s tournament run with a third place finish and a #3 seed to the ASAA 4A State Volleyball Championships.

The Stars fell to Colony in the winner’s bracket semi-final 3-0 and lost to Wasilla 3-2 in the double-back round.  Wasilla advances to play Colony in the NLC championship game on Saturday.

 

Southcentral Conference Volleyball Tournament

The two-day, double elimination Southcentral Conference Volleyball Tournament opened play on Friday at Anchorage Christian School with three automatic berths to the ASAA 3A State Volleyball Championships up for grabs.

 

The Nikiski Bulldogs opened with a three-game sweep of Joe Redington in the first round.  The Bulldogs defeated ACS in the winner’s bracket game Friday night 18-25, 22-25, 20-25 advancing Nikiski to the championship game on Saturday and guaranteeing Nikiski a berth at the ASAA 3A State Volleyball Championships.

 

The Kenai Kardinals fell to Grace Christian in Kenai’s opening round game.  The Kenai Kardinals advance on the consolation side of the bracket by sweeping the Houston Hawks (25-11, 25-17, 25-20). The Kardinals will play at 9 a.m. Saturday.
