Conflict Arises from Resolution to Support K-Beach Task Force

A resolution for the Kenai Peninsula Borough Assembly to support the citizen formed K-Beach Highwater Drainage Task Force failed Tuesday night.

Creator of the resolution, assembly member Kelly Wolf, responded after the task force was accused of using bully tactics, such as litigation threats.

Asm. Wolf: “I think the administration did a good job, within the boundaries of the letter of the codes that the borough has. Bringing forth a resolution to acknowledge a group of people who’ve come together to try to find solutions and discuss it, I can’t control, nobody can, individuals when they get upset. To say that the task force is using bully tactics, I find that offensive. Individuals? OK I’ll go with that; but not the task force.”

Numerous members stated they saw no reason to pass the resolution as the task force is already working on solutions and can present to the assembly at any borough assembly meeting.

Others were concerned that passing the resolution could be construed as the borough supporting all actions of the task force, and creating a mandate to provide more time and guidance.

The resolution failed with a six to three vote.
