Congressman Don Young spoke in support of the Indian Buffalo Management Act, a piece of legislation he sponsored that assists Tribal governments in the management of buffalo and buffalo habitat as well as for the reestablishment of buffalo on Indian lands. H.R. 5153 aims to recognize buffalo for their historical, cultural, and spiritual connection with the Indian Tribes.
The legislation reintroduces buffalo into the diets of Tribal members, rekindling the spiritual and cultural relationship. An additional benefit from the successful restoration of buffalo would allow tribal members to use it for economic development.
Today, I spoke in support of my Indian Buffalo Management Act. The American Buffalo, a species of bison, was central to the culture, spiritual well-being, and livelihoods of #Indigenous people. They were tragically decimated & my bill will help restore these majestic animals. pic.twitter.com/FSNqJHceJR
