ConocoPhillips Alaska submitted an application for a federal permit modification on Mar. 26, which would enhance the company’s ability to conduct hazardous material air transportation across Alaska. The energy company seeks to establish a new aircraft operation center under existing U.S. Department of Transportation regulations.
The PHMSA is now evaluating this proposed change, which regulates hazardous material transportation across the United States.
The approval of this modification would affect ConocoPhillip’s logistics operations throughout Alaska by enhancing the efficiency of material transportation between essential sites and enabling faster response times.
The PHMSA currently reviews multiple special permit modifications through its regular evaluation process. The permits enable businesses to perform activities beyond regular regulations because the agency finds them safe and justified.
The Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration will accept public comments about this application until Apr. 10, 2025. Those who wish to make comments can mail them to the agency’s Washington D.C. Record Center, and they must include the relevant permit number.
Energy and defense companies are demonstrating a growing interest in obtaining flexible transportation options for their sensitive and hazardous materials, especially in remote areas such as Alaska.
