ConocoPhillips to Resume Exports from Nikiski Facility

After receiving authorization from the U.S. Department of Energy, ConocoPhillips announced they plan to resume liquefied natural gas exports from their Nikiski facility this spring.

Burnett: “With regard to timing we’re planning 6 cargos during [2014], one per month and we plan to begin in May.” 

 

The company stated the Cook Inlet area gas supply forecasts have increased since 2013 which is a positive sign for local utilities.

Burnett: “During  2013 local utilities they executed gas supply agreements through at least the first part of 2018 and there’s gas storage now as well to meet peak supply demand and that’s really the key to understanding the gas supply forecast increase I think.” 

 

The Nikiski LNG plant was closed two years ago. In December 2013 the company submitted applications to the Department of Energy requesting to resume exports which were granted in February.

 

ConocoPhillips will be allowed to ship 40 billion cubic feet to both Free Trade Agreement and non-Free Trade Agreement countries over a  two year period.
