Gubernatorial candidate J.R. Myers and his running mate Maria Rensel were only able to garner 2.47% of Alaska’s vote, just shy of the 3% needed to establish their party.

Meyers said that would have legitimately established the Alaska Constitution Party for state electoral reasons and in the future he wouldn’t have to collect signatures every year to get his name on the ballot.

Myers: “We spent about six months traveling throughout the state and we had people all over gathering signatures, so it was quite a grassroots effort and it was no small task. It was quite a hurdle and so we are very sensitive to the process and any disruptions or manipulations of the process, because we followed the rules.”
