Constitution Party Still Working on Election Process

The Alaska Constitution Party was hoping to garner 3% in the general election in order to officially establish the party in State of Alaska future elections.

The gubernatorial J.R. Meyers and Maria Rensel ticket has only received 2.5% of the votes and Rensel spoke with us about their continuing goals.

Rensel: “The new parties in the state of Alaska are forced to run in statewide races and we think that’s the wrong model, we think that’s the top down model and that new parties should be bubbling up from grass roots. So that’s what we hope to do is change that law so that new parties can somehow gain ballot access without having to run in gubernatorial elections or as is the case in 2016 we will have to run in the Senate race.”

If the Meyers/Rensel ticket had gotten 3%, future Constitution Party candidates would not have to collect signatures in order to be on upcoming ballots.
