For the last three years the Alaska Construction Career Day has drawn local students from across the peninsula around this time.
Last year the State Department of Transportation decided to go to a bi-annual schedule, according to Pegge Erkeneff with the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District.
Erkeneff: “Different learning experiences with local construction companies, with welding, with process technology and being able to talk to other reps in the area about different opportunities for work beyond high school. And so that’s a project that’s been going on in collaboration with work force development and the state with the last couple of years but it did go to an every other year program so we aren’t going to have it this spring, but next year all of our juniors and seniors can participate.”
The event plans to be back next year with more opportunities to get students interested in construction career fields.
