Cook Inlet Oil and Gas Special Lease Sale is Live

The Alaska Division of Oil and Gas launched a special lease sale for the Cook Inlet region on Tuesday December 13th, 2022. Bidding is available online through the EnergyNet platform until Dec. 28, and bid results will be published Dec. 30.

The State typically holds two oil and gas lease sale offerings per year, one in Spring for the Cook Inlet region and one in Fall for the North Slope region. This year, in recognition of the federal Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) Lease Sale 258 in lower Cook Inlet, DNR’s Division of Oil & Gas is holding a concurrent sale for its available acreage in the Cook Inlet region. The Division is making available more than 2.8 million acres in 721 tracts.

“We are offering this special State Cook Inlet lease sale at the end of the year to coincide with the federal sale for the benefit of potential bidders and in accordance with our constitutional duties,” said DNR Deputy Commissioner John Crowther. “The basin still holds significant potential and an important step to unlocking it is to consistently offer open acreage to explorers.”

For prospective lessees, there are well and seismic data available through the tax credit program from the Division of Geological & Geophysical Surveys. More public well data can also be found through the Alaska Oil & Gas Conservation Commission.
