On Tuesday, February 25, the Sterling Highway MP 45-60 team will be holding a public open house where interested residents can hear about engineering design updates and see what’s next for the project.
The Sterling Highway MP 45-60 Project is also known as the Cooper Landing Bypass Project. It aims to construct the Sterling Highway in the area just east of the Quartz Creek Road intersection and just west of the east Skilak Lake Road intersection. The scope of this project includes passing lanes, retaining walls, drainage improvements, large mammal highway crossings, pedestrian facilities, parking lots / trailheads, and other related items, including compensatory mitigation requirements and other commitments.
This project will bring the highway up to current standards by efficiently and safely serving through-traffic, local community, and traffic bound for recreation destinations both now and in the future. Additionally, the project will construct approximately 10 miles of new roadway north of Cooper Landing and the Kenai River, between MP 46.5 and 55.5.
This is not the only planned public open house, as they are planned to occur quarterly throughout the duration of the project. The project is currently in Phase 1, which is anticipated to last throughout Spring, although the project team will have more details on the current progress at the meeting on Tuesday.
The meeting will take place at Cooper Landing Community Hall in Cooper Landing from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. The main presentation begins at 5:30.
