Copper River Seafoods announces that they will not be operating during the salmon season on the Kenai Peninsula this year. They cite the changes in the Cook Inlet salmon management plan, rising production costs, and the poor forecast. In stating that they will not be buying salmon in the Kenai area, Copper River Seafoods announces that there will be a new player taking their place.
Scott Blake, CEO of Copper River Seafoods writes in a letter:
“They plan on operating under Rogue Wave Processing and will be buying in Kenai, Kasilof, and Ninilchik and processing at the K-Beach Road plant. Their presence will provide the permit holders another strong buyer in the Inlet.”
Blake states that Rogue Wave Processing will be making an industry announcement with details on their operating team, who will handle boat launching and fishermen relations, and their overall intentions for 2022. He also writes that the company’s salmon operations in Prince William Sound and Bristol Bay will continue to operate. In addition, the company states that they are willing and ready to recruit new fishermen in those markets, whether starting out or seasoned captains, or interested in transferring fishing areas.
Blake concludes his letter stating:
“We appreciate your support during our time operating in Kenai. We wish you safety and success in the upcoming season.”
Alaska Company Directory indicates that Rogue Wave Processing was registered in November 2021.
