A man and woman who were reported missing on Friday, July 3, were found dead in a trailer near the Denali Highway on Sunday, July 5.

A report that the couple was missing from their campsite near mile 79 of the Denali Highway came in at 9:15 pm on Friday.

Initial investigation by Alaska State Trooper officers found evidence suggesting an altercation “involving gunfire associated with their vehicle and camper trailer.”

The Alaska Bureau of Investigation took over the case.

Alaska State Trooper aircraft and Wilderness Search and Rescue volunteers began an extensive search of the area.

On Sunday Alaska State Troopers hear noises coming from a run down trailer in the area and found evidence of the missing couple outside of it.

Law enforcement agencies established a perimeter and attempted to communicate with anyone inside.

The Northern Special Emergency Reaction Team and Southcentral SERT members responded to the scene.

After no communication was given back to the agencies, entry was made into the trailer and both individuals were found deceased inside.

The investigation is ongoing as troopers and the Alaska Bureau of Investigation are continuing to gather information at the scene to determine the circumstances surrounding the deaths.

The victims, who have not been named, are en route to the State Medical Examiner’s Office for positive identification.
