The Kenai Peninsula Borough School District is teaming with the Alaska Department of Health and Social Services to present a COVID-19 School Health ECHO for school district parents. The event is scheduled for Thursday, August 26th from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. The session is designed for parents of students in the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District to address questions they may have related to the safe return to in-person learning this school year.

Pegge Erkeneff, Director of Communications, Community and Government Relations for the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District:

Somebody can join via Facebook Live or they could join through a web link on the computer. We have Dr. Zink and Dr. Coleman Cutchins, Dr. Lisa Rabinowitz and Barb Pennington from the state, she’s the State School Nurse Consultant, our own Superintendent Clayton Holland and our nurse Melissa Miller will all be the panelists on that hourlong call.”

Erkeneff said:

They’ll be there to provide really up to date information on COVID-19 in our area on the Peninsula,  evidence based guidance given the delta variant, prevention strategies that schools can use and be there to answer parent questions. Any participants, they are encouraged to give questions ahead of time. There’s a link on the site to be able to do that.”

Erkeneff said the purpose is to gather a wide range of questions, thoughts and opinions from district parents:

I really appreciate what the University of Alaska is doing for this ECHO project. They’re using a lot of fact-based education, empathy, they’re listening to people, and they’ve been doing these all over the state with other school districts. We’re looking forward to offering this and helping get some information out and really hearing the questions that parents have as well. That’ll help us.”
