Appointments for new COVID vaccine opened on Thursday, and were filled quickly as demand for vaccination is exceeding the quantity received by the state.
As COVID-19 vaccine is being offered to more and more Alaskans, the Nikiski Fire Department is helping to facilitate a vaccine clinic this weekend, with the help of the Kenai Peninsula Borough Office of Emergency Management. For those seeking appointments, you are not in luck, as appointments filled up quickly. That said, Nikiski FD says that they will continue working to set up future clinics, as soon as they get more vaccine.
The clinic for those who already have appointments will be offered January 30 at North Peninsula Recreational Center. According to the Nikiski Fire Department, it is a large COVID-19 vaccination clinic for Phase 1A, all tiers, and Phase 1B, Tier 1. That includes Alaskans over the age of 65, emergency responders, and long-term care residents and staff. This clinic had around 200 slots open for folks across the peninsula, all of which have been claimed.
Harrison DeVeer from Nikiski FD offered details to KSRM News when the clinic was announced: “Nikiski Fire, back in August, went through the process of setting up to become a provider. We initially set it up so that we can vaccine our members here, and then, were hoping to help play a role in the community when the time came. So, we just got that opportunity vaccinate membership that wanted it. When they opened it up for the general public, we are able to partner up with North Pen Rec and OEM to bring vaccinations to not only Nikiski residents, but anyone else that wants them on the Kenai peninsula that is in the Tier group.”
DeVeer advised following Nikiski FD on Facebook for notices about future clinics, as they aim to serve not only Nikiski residents, but folks around the peninsula. For those without internet access, the Nikiski Senior Center will help facilitate appointments once more become available. They can be reached at (907) 776-7654.
