The annual Central Peninsula Hospital free drive-through flu shot clinic is set for Wednesday, October 19th from 3:00 until 5:30 p.m. on a first-come, first serve basis while supplies last.  The shots will be administered in the parking facility of Central Peninsula Hospital with the car line-up on Fireweed Lane in Soldotna.

Dana McDonald, infection preventionist at Central Peninsula Hospital detailed the flu shot event.

“On Wednesday, October 19th from 3 p.m. until 5:30 p.m., we (CPH) will be giving out free flu shots for people 18 years and older.  It’s going to be at the CPH parking garage and just line up on Fireweed and just follow the line in .  The UAA nursing students will be there to give you a free flu shot.”

McDonald reaffirmed that flu shots are effective during flu season.

“They help prevent you from getting the flu.  Definitely, it is a combination of things: washing your hands is super important and it’s really a great idea that if you are sick to not go out; you want to stay home, don’t go to school.  That’s something we want to continue to be doing.”  If you have the flu shot and you get the flu it seems tht you do have a milder case.  Everyone is different and those are things that you can talk to your doctor about.”

The CPH free drive through flu shot event is for anyone 18 or older.
