Vaccinations are continuing to be rolled out at Central Peninsula Hospital.
In a status update, Bruce Richards, Director of External Affairs at Central Peninsula Hospital spoke to KSRM, “We had vaccinated 297 employees and we have another clinic coming up on January 5.”
Richards explains where people can get a vaccination if they’re currently eligible to get one, “Right now, we’re in Phase 1a which is front line direct care healthcare workers and that does include some folks that are outside of the hospital where I am and I know that they’ve been going through Soldotna Professional Pharmacy, but we are only getting vaccine and distributing to the employees here at the hospital. The state is in charge of who gets this and when. There’s a committee that decides all of that. We’re not part of vaccinating everyone, that’s a public health issue and the state is in control of that.”
The Alaska Department of Health and Social Services, starting today at 12:00 p.m., a link to a vaccine appointment scheduling tool will be available for people in Phase 1a, Tier 3.
Outside of an update of the rollout of vaccines at Central Peninsula Hospital, Richards says the numbers currently at the hospital are down, “We have low counts on the peninsula, which is good. We do have several in-patients in the hospital that are COVID positive, which seems a little odd, considering the count level.”
According to the Department of Health and Social Services, there was 12,478 COVID-19 Pfizer vaccinations given and 793 COVID-19 Moderna vaccinations that were given. That totals 13,271 total COVID-19 vaccinations given as of 12/28. Supply is very limited at this time. Most of the people who may currently receive the vaccine are hospital based healthcare workers. Vaccine will be available to more groups of people over time.
