While the first baby born in Alaska arrived an hour after midnight on January 1, the Central Peninsula Hospital did not see its first newborn until two days later.
Bruce Richards with CPH says the new arrival came at 1:40 pm January 3, 2016.
Richards: “Baby boy Owen Jeffery Dean Wight was born to parents Danyelle, the mom, and Daniel Wight.”
Danyelle says Owen weighed in at six pounds, 13.2 ounces even though he arrived a little earlier than his January 19th due date.
Danyelle: “I was surprised that he was the first one because by the third I thought there would be more babies born but I wasn’t surprised that he came when he did.”
She wasn’t surprised because their family of seven children spent the day with her mother at Jumping Junction on January 2, prompting her to go into labor later at home.
Danyelle: “Me and my husband were playing Who Is It, it’s an old timey game, we were listening to music and I was bouncing on a yoga ball to the music and then my water just broke so I was pretty excited about that.”
The Wights’ second youngest child, Jordan, will celebrate his second birthday tomorrow.
