At February’s Dine and Discuss, Dr. Bill Kim, a board-certified gastroenterologist and internist with over 30 years of experience, presented effective weight loss strategies for better health.
He shared his insights from counseling thousands of patients.
“My assumption is always that people, if they’re given the correct amount of information and the correct information, that they can take real interventions to help their health and do things for themselves.” Dr. Kim said.
He then stated “There’s $42 billion spent on diet weight loss in this country. There’s so many people trying to sell them on so many things. But it’s important to understand how obesity happens and how to get rid of it. And that’s what we gave them today, steps to do those interventions to help improve their health and life.”
Dine Discuss is an almost 20-year-old event and offers residents of the Kenai Peninsula the opportunity to enjoy a delicious meal while gaining valuable health insights from local medical professionals in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere.
“It’s a way for our community to get that intimate connection with our doctors that they really aren’t going to find in any other way except for having a one-on-one appointment with them, and that can be intimidating for people. Also, there’s so much information that needs to be shared with large groups at the same time…” Shanon Davis, Marketing Manager at Central Peninsula Hospital, says. “It’s great to have an opportunity to address a room filled with 80 people all at the same time. It’s just wonderful for us to be able to share information with our community about becoming a healthier community.”
Each Dine & Discuss session features a Central Peninsula Hospital provider presenting on a health topic of community interest, followed by a Q&A session.
This unique community event is free to attend, with dinner available for purchase at $15. Space is limited, and pre-registration is required.
People are also welcome to come and participate without eating, although the hospital asks that everyone who attends register whether or not they will be eating so that there is enough seating.
