Cross Country Running Season Opens With Colony Invite

The Colony Invitational opened the high school running season with nine varsity boys teams, three varsity girls teams and an open division.  The teams raced on a 5-kilometer course in Palmer on Saturday.

 

The Grace Christian Grizzlies raced to team titles in both the girls and boys varsity divisions.

 

The Soldotna girls took third overall in the 5-kilometer varsity race lead by a fourth place finish by Kellie Arthur, who completed the course in 22:09.

Palmer’s Sophie Wright posted the fastest time with a 21:07.

The Star boys also finished third, out of nine teams, with five runners in the top 25.  Lance Chilton finished eighth to lead the Stars.  Bradley Walters, 13th; John Mark Pothast, 18 th; Sean Verg-in, 20th; and Bechler Metcalf, 24th placed for SoHi.

Grace Christian School’s Blake Bennett topped the field completing the 5-k course in 16:48.
