As of 4:50 pm Wednesday, Dallas Seavey remains in first place for the Iditarod Sled Dog Race and received $3,000 in gold nuggets for being the first to reach the halfway point at Cripple, Alaska.
While reports of the trail indicate another snowless winter on the route, some of the top competitors like Seavey are making their ways to checkpoints in record times.
Four of the original 85 mushers have scratched but all five of the dog-sled racers from the Kenai Peninsula are still competing.
Kenai Peninsula Iditarod musher standings:
Mitch Seavey of Seward is in 18th.
Paul Gebhart of Kasilof is in 24th.
Monica Zappa of Kasilof is in 43rd.
Travis Beals of Seward is in 45th.
Sarah Stokey of Seward, a rookie, is in 52nd.
