Today is the last day to nominate local teachers for patterns of excellence.
The 20th annual BP Teachers of Excellence Award nominations are celebrating the 620 teachers from across the state who have been recognized since the program was created.
Dawn Patience with BP spoke about the Kenai Peninsula’s nominations last year.
Patience: “Last year we had Barbara Veeck and she was a special education resource teacher at West Homer Elementary, she’s also a West Homer ski program coach. She was recognized for 33 years of education experience and was recognized as the BP teacher of excellence. We have a local community committee that helps choose different nominations from the teachers every year and last year we had five Kenai Peninsula teachers recognized. It varies year to year but each of those teachers wins a $500 gift card their school gets a $500 matching grant.”
