Deceased Denali Couple Identified, Ruled Homicide

The couple found dead in a dilapidated trailer near the Denali Highway on Sunday has been identified and their deaths are being investigated as a homicide.

Alaska State Troopers identified the deceased as 61-year-old Richard Casler and 42-year-old Lynn Butler of Wasilla.

The pair appeared to have died from gunshot wounds and investigators have ruled out a murder suicide in the case.

The couple was reported missing from their campsite near Mile 79 of the Denali Highway last Friday, July 3, to Alaska State Troopers.

Initial investigation found evidence suggesting an altercation “involving gunfire associated with their vehicle and camper trailer.”

An extensive search of the nearby area was launched and on Sunday law enforcement officers discovered a run-down trailer in the area with evidence of the missing couple outside of it.

It is unknown if either of the individuals were alive when the trailer was found and law enforcement set up a perimeter around it, making efforts to communicate with anyone inside.

The Alaska Bureau of Investigation continues to investigate this case and is asking that anyone recreating in that area of the Denali Hwy during the Fourth of July weekend or anyone with information about this incident contact the Alaska State Troopers at (907)451-5100.
