The Dena’ina Wellness Center gave an update of its operations and role in the community at the Industry Outlook Forum today.

Executive Director of the Kenaitze Indian Tribe Jaylene Peterson Nyren said since the facility opened in June 2014 it has done more than just offer the 50 anticipated jobs to the community.

Nyren: “We have been able to add our specialty physicians, we have a pediatrician that we’ve hired recently, a woman’s health physician, a physical therapist. We’ve been able to bring in more support locally with the dental program. We have space to offer more variety of dental specialty care for our customers. It allows people to not have to go in to Anchorage so much for physical therapy or for other dental care.”

She said being able to offer expanded physical therapy operations is a real benefit to those in the community who may have full time jobs and physical therapy and gives them the opportunity to keep up with treatments whereas before they would have had to travel to Anchorage.
