Gov. Mike Dunleavy accepted Alaska Department of Natural Resources Commissioner Corri Feige’s resignation on Tuesday. She was announced for the position in late 2018 under Gov. Dunleavy. The announcement by Feige was made so that she could spend more time with her family, a decision that the governor regretfully accepted, according to a press release from the office of Governor Mike Dunleavy.

In a statement, Gov. Dunleavy says:

“Commissioner Feige is a shining example of what public service can be. Her list of accomplishments during her three years at the helm of DNR was impactful to say the least. She guided Alaska’s resource development industries through a pandemic without placing their employees at risk, asserted Alaska’s rightful ownership over submerged lands and positioned the state to be more self-reliant and food secure. Her legacy will be with Alaska for many years to come.”

Feige’s final day with the administration will be June 30, 2022 and the governor announced that he will appoint an interim commissioner by June 30.

This move comes as several other changes have been made within Governor Dunleavy’s administration lately.

Dr. Michael Johnson, Commissioner of the Alaska Department of Education and Early Development announced he is departing from his role effective June 30, 2022. He had been commissioner since July 1, 2016. Additionally, Department of Corrections Commissioner Nancy Dahlstrom resigned near the end of May so she can join Gov. Dunleavy in his re-election ticket as pick for Lt. Governor. She had served with the Administration as corrections commissioner since December 2018.

As of May 23, Jen Winkelman accepted the role of acting commissioner, who most recently served as director of pretrial, probation and parole.
