Last night the Soldotna City Council unanimously passed the resolution to include $50,000 for the Skyview Pool into next years budget despite multiple council members’ reservations.

Member Meggean Bos described the hesitancy from the council.

Cm. Bos: “The pool is not located within the City of Soldotna limits. Also the question of: at what point should the government intervene on these different entities? There’s a lot of unanswered questions regarding the pool. For example; what hours? Who is going to be allowed to use the pool? Who is going to be paying what costs?”

Bos,  Linda Murphy, Paul Whitney, and Pete Sprague all expressed mixed feelings.

Mike Sweeney from Sweeney’s Clothing said that he had over 5o0 signatures on his petition which he will turn in before the Kenai Peninsula School District’s meeting on Monday.

Sweeney: “It’s a partial fix. The City is interested in, matter of fact the whole Council was at least for the funding of this pool, but what we really need is the Borough and the School District. The City is a good thing and they have good ideas, but it’s out of the City limits. They can do this and that helps for this year, but for the future they’re not going to be able to say… unless it became a City pool.”
