Despite COVID-19 Concerns, Ghouls Just Want To Have Fun

Halloween is quickly approaching and several organizations on the Kenai Peninsula are trying to offer their own versions of trick-or-treating. The Halloween tradition is no exception to the many activities to be impacted by the COVID-19 public health emergency, so the aim is to provide a safer alternative that allows spreading the Halloween spirit, rather than the COVID-19 virus.

 

One such event is the first annual K-Beach Trunk or Treat & TCR Car Show taking place in the parking lot of the Orca Theater on K-Beach. They will attempt to re-create the traditional trick-or-treat feeling, but within the confines of a large parking lot. Cars will be decked out in Halloween garb as they hand out candy. Shelly Endsley, owner of Orca, offered details to KSRM News: “It’s gonna be this Saturday from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. We’re gonna have Truck City Raceways – or anybody in the community who wants to come down and participate. They can bring their own car and pass out candy to anybody. Decorations, we’re going to have prizes for best-decorated-car. It’s going to take up the Duck Inn, the Orca, and also Copper Center, hopefully, if we get enough cars to do it. It’s all in one spot, so you don’t have to worry about going to people’s house or anything like that – it’s all right there. The first 300 kids that come to the theater get a free glow-in-the-dark necklace.”

 

The local Elks Lodge is hosting their own trunk-or-treat event at Four D Carpet One in Soldotna. Brittney Hoffert of the Elks Lodge: “We’re gonna have some fun trunk-or-treats. We’re gonna be giving out good treats and there might be a surprise in there! We typically, every year, will have little goodie bags and we’ll take them to the hospitals and other locations where there are kids. This year, we’re not able to do it so we’re gonna have it in the Four D parking lot. We’ll be handing out pre-packaged candies. So, trunk-or-treat will be from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at the Four D parking lot.”
