Alaska adults can prevent diabetes by participating in a new, free telephone program. Alaska’s Diabetes Prevention and Control Program is making diabetes prevention easier by providing a free program for Alaska adults with pre-diabetes who want to prevent developing diabetes and stay healthy.
The state notes that residents don’t have to live in Anchorage or another large community to participate. This program, offered through InquisitHealth, is available to eligible adults anywhere in Alaska because you complete the program on the telephone.
This service, called the PreventT2 Diabetes Prevention Program, aims to help you lose weight, become more physically active, and reduce stress. Over the phone, InquisitHealth provides one-on-one consultations to help you make the small, meaningful changes that matter most. Those changes focus on the way you eat, move, sleep, or manage stress. It is a personalized approach designed to help you lose weight, gain energy, and reduce your chances of developing type 2 diabetes and other related diseases.
InquisitHealth’s PreventT2 Diabetes Prevention Program participants will receive the following:
- A proven program to prevent or delay type 2 diabetes;
- One-on-one phone consultation with a trained mentor who leads each consultation;
- Year-long weekly consultations with a mentor for the first six months, then once or twice a month for the next six months;
- Support from others like you as you learn new skills.
