The Alaska Department of Health and Social Services reports 1,024 new COVID-19 cases, 1 Kenai Peninsula death and 242 hospitalizations in the data update on Thursday. That number includes 1,001 resident and 23 new nonresident cases. Across the Kenai Peninsula, Soldotna reported 31 new cases, Kenai with 23, Sterling 13, Homer 6, Kenai Peninsula Borough North 5 in 3 communities, Anchor Point 4, and Nikiski with 3.

 

The one death was identified through death certificate review, according to the state Department of Health and Social Services. The death was a female Kenai Peninsula resident in her 60s.

 

There are currently 242 patients diagnosed with COVID-19 who are hospitalized and 3 additional patients who are considered persons under investigation (PUI) for a total of 245 current COVID-related hospitalizations. Thirty of these patients are on ventilators. The percentage of patients currently hospitalized with COVID-19 is 19.4%.

 

 

The current statewide alert level – based on the reported number of cases per 100,000 people over the past 7 days – is high (red) at 762.24. For boroughs and census areas: 24 areas are at the high alert level, including the Kenai Peninsula Region.

 

64.5% of Alaskans aged 12 and older have received their first vaccine dose. 59.6% of Alaskans aged 12 and older have been fully vaccinated. 49.8% of the Kenai Peninsula Region are considered fully vaccinated.
