The Alaska Department of Health and Social Services reported over 1,000 new coronavirus cases, 2 deaths and 155 hospitalizations in the COVID-19 data update on Monday from Friday through Sunday. The two deaths were that of Alaska residents, both were female residents of Anchorage age 80 or older.
The COVID-19 case count includes 1,077 resident cases and 12 nonresident cases, totaling 1,089 cases. Across the Kenai Peninsula, Kenai reported 22 cases, Homer 17, Soldotna 14, Nikiski 4, Kenai Peninsula Borough North 3, Kenai Peninsula Borough South 3, Sterling 3, Anchor Point 1, and Seward 1. In addition, Seward reported 1 nonresident case.
There are currently 155 patients diagnosed with COVID-19 who are hospitalized and seven additional patients who are considered persons under investigation (PUI) for a total of 162 current COVID-related hospitalizations. Nineteen of these patients are on ventilators. The percentage of patients currently hospitalized with COVID-19 is 13.9%. Last week, Central Peninsula Hospital reported that they will not be updating the daily count graphic unless the numbers of COVID-19 patients increases above the threshold.
The current statewide alert level – based on the reported number of cases per 100,000 people over the past 7 days – is high (red) at 386.6 but has incrementally been going down for several weeks. For boroughs and census areas: 21 areas are at the high alert level.
59% of Alaskans aged 5 and older have received at least their first vaccine dose. 54% of Alaskans aged 5 and older have been fully vaccinated.
