The state Department of Health and Social Services reported over 550 COVID-19 cases, 2 additional deaths and 243 hospitalizations in the data update on Wednesday. The two Alaska residents who died were a female Fairbanks resident age 80 or older and a male Anchorage resident in his 70s.
Of the COVID-19 numbers reported, 560 were resident cases and seven were nonresident cases. Across the Kenai Peninsula, Homer reported 14 cases, Anchor Point 7 cases, Soldotna 6, Kenai 5, Kenai Peninsula Borough South 3, Kenai Peninsula Borough North 2, and Nikiski 1. Homer reported 1 nonresident case.
There are currently 243 patients diagnosed with COVID-19 who are hospitalized and three additional patients who are considered persons under investigation (PUI) for a total of 246 current COVID-related hospitalizations. Thirty-three of these patients are on ventilators. The percentage of patients currently hospitalized with COVID-19 is 20.4%.
The current statewide alert level – based on the reported number of cases per 100,000 people over the past 7 days – is high (red) at 658.5. For boroughs and census areas: 25 areas are at the high alert level.
64.9% of Alaskans aged 12 and older have received their first vaccine dose. 60.1% of Alaskans aged 12 and older have been fully vaccinated. 50.3% of the Kenai Peninsula Region are fully vaccinated.
