DHSS Reports 668 COVID-19 Cases, 3 Deaths And 195 Hospitalizations In Wednesday Update

The state Department of Health and Social Services reported 668 new COVID-19 cases, 3 deaths and 195 hospitalizations in the data update on Wednesday. The three residents who died were a male Soldotna resident in his 60s, a male Copper River Census Area resident age 80 or older and a female Fairbanks resident age 80 or older.

 

In addition to the 668 new COVID cases, 660 were resident cases and 8 were nonresident cases. Soldotna reported 12 cases, Kenai 11, Homer 7, Anchor Point 3, Kenai Peninsula Borough South 3, Seward 1, and Sterling 1. In addition, Seward reported 1 nonresident case.

 

There are currently 195 patients diagnosed with COVID-19 who are hospitalized and five additional patients who are considered persons under investigation (PUI) for a total of 200 current COVID-related hospitalizations. Twenty-nine of these patients are on ventilators. The percentage of patients currently hospitalized with COVID-19 is 16.6%.

 

 

The current statewide alert level – based on the reported number of cases per 100,000 people over the past 7 days – is high (red) at 588.7.

 

65.4% of Alaskans aged 12 and older have received at least their first vaccine dose. 60.5% of Alaskans aged 12 and older have been fully vaccinated. 50.6% of the Kenai Peninsula Region are fully vaccinated.
