If you’ve ever wondered how to dispose of outdated and unused prescriptions and over the counter medicines, the Soldotna Professional Pharmacy is hosting “Drug Take Back Day” this Saturday, April 26th from 10 am – 2pm.
Josselyn O’Connor with the Kenai Watershed Forum said they are excited to help with this event.
O’Connor: “It keeps our community safer, it prevents theft and misuse of medications and like I said just keeping it out of our environment is better for everyone.”
She said that flushing or dumping medications down the drain can effect the environment also.
O’Connor: “Trace amounts of medications can show up in aquatic life so by disposing of them properly we keep those out of our waterways and our aquatic life healthy.”
O’Connor said that Alaska State Troopers, DEA, and the Kenai and Soldotna Police Departments will also be there to take certain medications, along with the staff of Soldotna Professional Pharmacy.
