Districts Suspend Weekly Antigen Screening For Student Athletes

Only one week into the antigen screening of student athletes in Alaska, the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District as released that the program has been suspended.

 

Kari Lee Dendurent, KPBSD Assistant Superintendent, notified school administrators that…

“In response to the limited and dwindling supply of antigen screening kits, it has been determined to cease the weekly antigen screening for student athletes. Testing will occur only when deemed necessary for student destination travel, staff travel and contact identification purposes.

It has been verified Anchorage School District, Fairbanks North Star Borough School District and the Mat-Susitna Borough School District are following similar protocols.”

 

Students will no longer be required to take part in antigen screening on Mondays at KPBSD schools.

Sports and Activities.
1. Sports and Activities Daily symptom check for athletes and coaches, antigen testing will depend on travel destination, COVID Return to Play, Before or After Activity Best Practices, volunteer screening.  For the health and safety of student athletes and coaches a 12-foot buffering zone from spectators will be in place. Best practice is to place athletic teams on one side of the gym and spectators on the opposite side as gym space allows.

Removed from the mitigation plan: weekly antigen testing (no symptoms/no exposure)
