The Division II State Hockey Championships opens three days of competition on Thursday, February 6th at the Soldotna Regional Sports Complex in Soldotna, Alaska.
State Tournament Seeding Criteria
The qualifiers to the state tournament are based on conference records from the regular season. Berths to State:
Aurora Conference – 3
Railbelt Conference – 3
At-Large – 2
Following the determination of state qualifiers, the eight teams are ranked based on the following formula:
“Each team in the “pool” will be given a point value of .5 or one against each other team being considered. Points will be assigned using the following ranked criteria;
1. Head to head record.
2. Record against common opponents at all classifications.*
3. Record against common state qualifiers at that classification.*
4. Record against common opponents at that classification.*
* winning percentage must have a difference of at least 25%
If there is a tie, the same criteria will be used to break the tie, disregarding the other teams. If the tie still exist there will be coin toss by ASAA staff to determine who advances.
When the seasons were totaled by ASAA, the following rankings were determined.
#1 Seed: SoHi Stars, #2 Palmer Moose, #3 Houston Hawks, #4 North Pole Patriots, #5 Kenai Kardinals, #6 Juneau-Douglas Bears, #7 Tri-Valley Vikings, #8 Delta Wolves
Kenai Central opens tournament play against the North Pole on Thursday in the 4:00 p.m. contest.
Soldotna opens tournament play against the Delta on Thursday in the 6:30 p.m contest.
