Division of Forestry Says Card Street Fire May Not be Human Caused

The investigation into what caused the Card Street Fire continues and now agencies are stating it may not have been human caused.

 

Public Information Officer Tim Mowry said local, state, and federal agencies are working together to determine what caused it.

Mowry: “I know it has come out previously that it is human caused but that is still a part of the investigation. Part of the reason is because we have a computer software program that will sort of automatically list things as human caused under investigation if like a dispatcher does not fill that in so it sort of is a default. They’re still looking at if that was human caused or lightning.”

Mowry: “The results of the investigation and if it is found to be human caused and there is someone identified as the one who caused it, that information would be forwarded to the attorney general’s office and then it would be up to the attorney general as how to proceed from there.”

 

The cause of the Funny River Fire also remains under investigation.

 

Federal agencies previously ruled that nearly 200,000 acre fire to be human caused last year.

 

Andy Loranger with the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge said although the origin of the Funny River Fire was pinpointed, there was no evidence left such as campfire debris or a cigarette to determine what exactly ignited it.
