The Division of Parks and Outdoor Recreation has said they expect a very busy Memorial Day weekend at all of their Kenai Peninsula campgrounds.
Area Superintendent Jack Blackwell said he spoke with some Park Rangers yesterday who said spots are already filling up quickly.
Blackwell: “The state parks are all open on the western Kenai and we’re expecting a busy weekend as people travel down to the peninsula.”
The Division of Forestry has said that a burn suspension is still in place which includes burn barrels however camp fires in approved camp rings no larger than three feet across are permissable.
We asked Blackwell what kinds of things Parks and Rec are doing to prepare.
Blackwell: “Park Rangers and state park staff will be focusing on trying to make sure the campfires are contained into the individual camp fire rings.”
