Divisional Football Pairings Highlight Labor Day Weekend

Divisional football pairing in high school football’s Division II will feature southern teams Soldotna and Kenai facing teams from the North and the Railbelt Conference with West Valley and North Pole traveling South to face Northern Lights Conference opponents.  Need a compass?

 

Week four of the regular season opens with a Peninsula Conference battle between Nikiski and Ketchikan at Nikiski.

 

Nikiski vs Ketchikan @ Nikiski High School    Friday, August 31    5:00 p.m.   ESPN 1140AM and www.radiokenai.com

The Bulldogs open Peninsula Conference play against a team far removed from the Kenai Peninsula with Ketchkan arriving in Nikiski to battle the Bulldogs on Friday.  Game time is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.

Nikiski stands at 2-1 on the season and will face its first conference opponent.  Ketchikan claims a 2-0 record and also looking at a conference opener.  The Ketchikan Kings were reclassified by ASAA and play in Division III in-spite-of a school enrollment estimated at 590 students (Division III enrollment size 1-450).

The Bulldogs have allowed only 68 points in three games and recorded a shutout last week against Joe Redington.  Nikiski’s passing game has recorded four touchdowns and no interceptions.

The Bulldogs vs Wolfpack game will be broadcast on KSRM 920AM and www.radiokenai.com with the Sweeney’s Pregame Show beginning at 4:45 p.m.

 

SoHi vs West Valley @ Soldotna High School    Friday, August 31    6:30 p.m.   ESPN 1140AM and www.radiokenai.com

The Soldotna Stars, undefeated in divisional and conference play, hosts West Valley of Fairbanks, undefeated for 2018, Friday at Justin Maile Field at Soldotna High School in a showdown of Division II opponents.  Game time is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.

The Stars look to complete a three-game sweep of Fairbanks Railbelt teams having defeated North Pole and Lathrop; scoring a combined 116 points in the past two weekend pairings.  West Valley stands undefeated with a week three victory over Division I Chugiak.

The Stars again feature a punishing ground game which has amassed over 1000 yards in three games.  SoHi has passed for four touchdowns and the Stars defense has allowed a conference-low 58 total points.

The Stars vs Wolfpack game on Friday will be broadcast on ESPN 1140AM and www.radiokenai.com with the Sweeney’s Pregame Show beginning at 6:15 p.m.

 

Kenai vs North Pole @ Kenai Central High School    Saturday, September 1   2:00 p.m.   ESPN 1140AM and www.radiokenai.com

The Kardinals face their third Railbelt opponent hosting North Pole on Saturday at Ed Hollier Field at KCHS.  Game time is scheduled for 2 p.m.

Kenai and North Pole are both in search of a first victory in Division II play and Kenai looks for a first, home victory.  The Kardinal offense has produced 85 points and nearly 750 rushing yards.

The Kards vs Patriots game on Saturday will be broadcast on ESPN 1140AM and www.radiokenai.com with the Sweeney’s Pregame Show beginning at 1:45 p.m.
