Many Alaskans will find out if their dreams of buying a piece of state land for their own will come true, when the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) opens bids for State Land Auction #491 on Wednesday, Dec. 16.

DNR’s Division of Mining, Land and Water has had 110 parcels of land available for bids during this twice-yearly auction, one of the many ways Governor Mike Dunleavy is working to “put Alaska lands into Alaskans’ hands.” The division accepted bids between Oct. 7 and Dec. 2, and will begin announcing apparent high bidders Wednesday at 10 a.m. Results will be posted on the division’s Land Sales webpage in real-time, at: http://landsales.alaska.gov.

The division will practice social distancing to reduce the spread of COVID-19 by limiting in-person observers of the bid opening to eight people at its office in Anchorage at 550 W. Seventh Ave., Suite 640, by reservation only. Call (907) 269-8594 for details. The event will also be carried via Facebook Live. To watch, go to the DNR webpage at: https://www.facebook.com/AKDNR/, or the Land Sales Facebook page at: http://www.facebook.com/alaskaland and follow the appropriate links.

Parcels not sold at auction will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis through the Over-the-Counter program via the Land Sales website, starting Dec. 30 at 10 a.m. State land is also available through Remote Recreational Cabin Sites staking and agricultural land sales programs.
