The Seward Highway will close for one hour, four days a week just south of Hope beginning next Monday, July 27.
On Tuesday, July 28, and Thursday, July 30, the 9:30-10:30 pm closure south of Hope will coincide with another Seward Highway closure just south of Bird Creek.
Shannon McCarthy with the Department of Transportation…
McCarthy: “Mile 99 to 100 improvements and it’s rehabilitating the pavement along that stretch of road and actually widening the highway for a passing lane for the northbound traffic.”
The one-hour closure near Hope will occur on Mondays through Thursdays from July 27 through August 27.
The Hope closures will allow construction crews to install a large pipe across the roadway.
McCarthy suggested drivers should give themselves an extra 30 minute to one hour during Alaska’s peak construction this season.
McCarthy: “This is actually the most significant year we’ve had in DOT history for construction, both in terms of the number of projects and the volume of contract payments so it’s a pretty significant year.”
