DOT Plans One-Lane, Temporary Closures on Old Sterling Highway

The Department of Transportation will begin excavation and culvert replacement work on the Old Sterling Highway between Anchor Point and Homer on Monday.

DOT spokeswoman Shannon McCarthy clarified this is not the main highway, but older highway now used as an alternative.

McCarthy: “Our maintenance is actually replacing most of the cross-pipes on the Old Sterling in this area and they’re going to try to do the best they can to not disturb traffic but they are looking at one-lane closures for the most part, they’ll have that clearly marked. And then probably toward the end of the month they’re going to do some overnight closures to replace some of the culverts that are a little bit deeper.”

She says this is a part of regular maintenance by the Department…

McCarthy: “Keeping our drainage working is really important to the Department and actually saves us more money in the long run if we keep water away from the road.”
