DOT To Host Open Houses On Sterling Highway Safety Project In June

Sterling – The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) is inviting the public to learn more about its ongoing efforts to improve safety along a busy stretch of the Sterling Highway.

 

Two public open houses are scheduled for June as part of the Sterling Safety Corridor Improvements Milepost 82.5 to 94 project. The meetings will take place:

 

 

The open houses will offer residents a chance to review the preferred design alternative, ask questions, and share feedback directly with the project team. Meeting materials and the presentation will be available online starting June 10 at www.SterlingSafetyImprovements.com.

 

DOT&PF says the project aims to improve safety and reduce congestion along the highway, a critical transportation route on the Kenai Peninsula. Field crews completed hydrology inspections, wetland verifications, and eagle nest surveys this spring. More fieldwork is planned this summer, including geotechnical investigations and surveying near milepost 91, where the road has shown signs of deterioration.

 

In addition to the open houses, the project team will have a booth at the Soldotna Wednesday Market on several dates between late June and early August, giving residents more opportunities to ask questions and stay informed.
