The names of the Alaska State Troopers who fired their weapons during last week’s shooting in Kasilof, killing 32-year-old Kasilof resident Mason Toloff, have been released after a mandatory 72 hours of administrative leave.
All three three law enforcement officers are part of the Alaska State Troopers Southern SWAT Team and discharged their firearms during the SWAT operation. They are identified as:
- Alaska State Trooper Sergeant Ethan Norwood, a 12-year veteran of the Alaska State Troopers
- Alaska State Trooper Jonathan Lindblom, a 2-year veteran of the Alaska State Troopers
- Homer Police Officer Charles Lee, a 4-year veteran of the Homer Police Department
Toloff was the cause of a 911 complaint last Thursday night when he was reported to have been yelling and firing a weapon near Crooked Creek Rd. in Kasilof. During a standoff with the Southern SWAT Team, Tolof fired at a drone released by Troopers, then turned his weapon on an officer in uniform and fired, striking her in the leg. The Trooper was taken to a Kenai Peninsula hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Near the end of the four-hour standoff, Toloff again pointed his shotgun at law enforcement officers, prompting Norwood, Lindblom, and Lee to open fire on him. Toloff was declared deceased at the scene.
AST announced on Friday that Toloff’s next of kin had been notified.
The Alaska Bureau of Investigation continues to investigate the incident. Once their investigation is complete, it will be independently reviewed by the Alaska Office of Special Prosecutions.
