Driver Dead In Tuesday Seward Highway Crash; Contributing Factor Appears To Be Alcohol

Update: 1/13/21: The driver of the 2019 Volkswagen Golf has been identified as 31-year-old Allen Solomon of Fairbanks. Next of kin have been notified.

An unidentified driver is dead after a crash on the Seward Highway.

 

Around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, the Soldotna Public Safety Communications Center reports that a 2019 Volkswagen Golf was heading north on the Seward Highway when it hit the rear end of an Alaska Department of Transportation & Public Facilities road grader that was actively plowing. The crash happened near milepost 30 on the Seward Highway near the Spruce Moose Chalets in Moose Pass.

 

The driver was declared dead at the scene. There were no injuries to the Department of Transportation & Public Facilities road grader operator. Both vehicles had to be towed from the scene. According to Alaska State Troopers, alcohol appears to be a contributing factor in the collision. The driver of the Volkswagen was not wearing a seatbelt at the time.

 

The driver will be identified once next of kin has been notified.
