The Soldotna City Council passed an ordinance which gives residents the option of 30 ft wide driveways versus 24 ft.
Council woman Regina Daniels voted in support of the ordinance.
Cm. Daniels: “The City of Soldotna needs to be more friendly to our citizens and it isn’t like we are going to have developers coming in and putting in multiple homes with 30 foot driveways. This gives the residents the opportunity, if they feel the need, they can get a permit to go up to a 30 foot driveway.”
Council woman Linda Murphy stated that she brought forward the ordinance due to a Soldotna resident who had gone through proper channels to get a varience to widen his driveway.
Cm. Murphy: “And because there are already a number of them in town that people put in without permission, I just felt that in fairness that we should have a greater width and I don’t think it’s going to lead to everyone in town widening their driveways. For those who do, I think it makes sense and I think it a better option than having a narrow driveway width and then having people pave over, after they get beyond the right of way, paving over their yard to have additional parking.”
