A single vehicle accident on the morning of April 6 closed the Sterling Highway near mile 154.

A 2009 Chevy Malibu was being driven by 49 year-old Jacob “Troy” Watson of Homer when he claims he fell asleep at the wheel, traveled off the roadway and hit a power pole.

The pole collapsed and the power lines were blocking the Sterling Highway.

Anchor Point Fire Department responded and assisted with traffic control until Homer Electric Association arrived to remove the lines.

The highway was shut down for close to 45 minutes.

Watson reported no injuries and was released from the scene.
