Alaska Governor Mike Dunleavy addressed the state in a social media post in which he conveyed a positive outlook for Alaska in light of Tuesday’s victory for Donald Trump in the U.S. presidential race.
Dunleavy said he believed that, unlike the current administration, a Trump presidency would acknowledge Alaska’s advantages to the country.
“I’ve already had discussions with the incoming president of United States, Donald Trump about Alaska,” said the governor. “And lucky for us, he looks very favorably upon Alaska, which, to me, I think is fantastic because we are a small state. We’re tucked out of the way up north, and a lot of times, people forget we’re here. But not this president. He is going to help us really take advantage of our opportunities here in Alaska.”
According to the governor’s prognostication, A Trump administration will help undo Biden-era blockages to the development of Alaska’s natural resources.
“He sees Alaska’s oil resources, our gas resources, our mining resources, our timber resources, our location on the globe,” Dunleavy said. “The Biden administration had about 66 executive orders and actions against Alaska’s ability to produce resources. Well, Alaska’s a resource state. It’s the lifeblood of our state. That’s going to change radically now.”
The governor added that under Trump, he believes Alaska is closer than ever to the construction of a natural gas pipeline.
“So I would anticipate more opportunities than oil like I said, more opportunities than gas. We are getting closer and closer to the realization of a large gas line in the state of Alaska. As a result of economics, as a result of permitting processes, and as a result of what’s happening around the world, Alaska will soon be a player in the gas world internationally like we once were when we exported gas from [the] Cook Inlet with Japan for over 50 years.”
