As we reported yesterday afternoon, the Kenai Peninsula School Board has named their new Superintendent: Sean Dusek.

Arness: “I’m very confident and very comfortable with Mr. Dusek. We’ve had the opportunity now for a couple of months to have him being our Superintendent, so we know what we’re getting and I think we’re getting a quality product.”

 

Board President Joe Arness said the Board voted unanimously to offer Dusek the position. They interviewed only one other candidate: Kimberly Bergey, who is currently with the Iditarod Area School District. Arness said they had four interviews scheduled, but two applicants withdrew.

Arness: “One of them cited personal reasons, whatever that means, and the other one said that basically he had read an article in the local paper about this search and he came to realize that there was an Assistant Superintendent who was also in the running and who appeared to be well-thought-of and so he didn’t know if it was a good use of his time.”

 

Dusek had been serving as the Interim Superintendent since the departure of Dr. Steve Atwater in December 2014. His resume boasts more than two decades of experience with the District as a teacher, assistant principal, principal, director, assistant superintendent, and now, superintendent.

 

The Superintendent’s contract is yet to be fully negotiated, but the annual salary for the position was advertised in the range of $140,000-$165,000.

 

Dusek formally takes up the position July 1, 2015.
