Early, absentee, in-person, electronic transmission, and special needs voting begins Monday, August 3, for the statewide Primary election.
Similar to Primary Election Day on August 18, voters who wish to cast a ballot early will need to bring one form of identification to the early/absentee voting location. Voters may cast absentee ballots in four ways: in person, by mail, by fax, or by a special needs ballot.
Democratic primary ballots are available to any registered voter. Republican ballots are only accessible to officially registered Republicans, undeclared, or nonpartisan. Voters are only allowed to select one ballot.
The Republican primary for State House District 30 has been the subject of questions over the weekend, following the passing of incumbent Representative Gary Knopp. His name does remain on the ballot, alongside Kelly Wolf, and Ron Gillham. If Knopp were to win the vote, Alaska Republican Party officials would meet to declare which candidate would represent the GOP on November’s ballot.
Early voting ends on August 17, just as the statewide Primary occurs on August 18. Polls will be open from 7:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. To check polling status, as well as to view a list of polling locations, visit the Alaska Division of Elections online.
