Emergency Management Training Being Offered by Borough

The Borough is offering training in December for anyone interested in being a part of the management teams that respond during events like the Funny River or Card Street Fires.

 

The universal system used nationwide is called Incident Command Systems 300; Office of Emergency Management Program Manager Dan Nelson says the classes are for anyone in public or private sectors such as the Red Cross or even oil companies.

Nelson: “Sort of the mid-level class for responders. Incident Command System refers to we and other federal, state, and private agencies respond to disaster, how we organize, who has what position. The class that OEM is offering in December is the beginning of that process for anybody that might be involved in a response of a large magnitude.”

 

The universal system is taught as a way to save time when disaster strikes so agencies do not have to spend time training during major emergency.

 

Nelson says anyone interested in participating in the class must complete prerequisite online courses through the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

 

The deadline for class registration is November 23. The courses will be taught 8:30 am – 5:00 pm daily from December 14-16 at the Soldotna Emergency Response Center on Wilson Lane.
