ENSTAR Employees Replacing Meter Components

Residents of the Kenai Peninsula may see ENSTAR employees replacing small components attached to residential gas meters through December.

 

ENSTAR’s Lindsay Hobson says those components are referred to as ERTs.

Hobson: “ERT stands for an encoder receiver transmitter and it’s a small device that’s attached to everyone’s meter that transmits the meter read each month. The benefit of the ERT is that is allows our service techs to receive the meter read without having to physically inspect each meter by going into your yard.”

 

The ERTs must be replaced because the components are reaching the end of their battery life.

Hobson: “I believe that the current ERTS have a battery life of about 10-15 years and the new ERTS will have an extended battery life up to 20 years.”
